Pokemon Go May Community Day Move Revealed

With Pokemon Go’s May Community Day just days away, trainers have learned the special move they can get when they catch a Charmander and evolve it into a Charizard.

Pokemon Go announced the move will be “Blast Burn,” a two-bar 100-damage fire type move. Back in April, the game announced that Charmander would be the exclusive Pokemon for the May Pokemon Go Community Day.

The game also noted that Fast TMs and Charged TMs will not grant exclusive moves to a Pokemon during Community Day. For a trainer to have their team member learn an exclusive move, they must catch or evolve it during Community Day hours.

According to Bulbapedia, Blast Burn was a fire-type move introduced in Generation Three. Below is Bulbapedia’s description of Blast Burn and its effect.

Description: The target is razed by a fiery explosion. The user can’t move on the next turn.

Effect: Blast Burn inflicts damage and then forces the user to recharge during the next turn. Unless this attack misses, the user will always have to recharge.

Blast Burn can also be used as part of a Pokémon Contest combination, with the user gaining extra four appeal points if the move Sunny Day was used in the prior turn.

One of the caveats about this move is only a fully evolved starter fire Pokemon can learn this move – i.e. Charizard. Typhlosion, Blaziken, Infernape, Emboar, Delphox and Incineroar. It can also only be taught by a Move Tutor, which means Pokemon cannot learn it on their own or through a Technical Machine they obtain in the game.

Blast Burn is a popular move among fire-type Pokemon trainers. It also made its way into the anime during the XYZ series when Kalos League Winner Alain had his Charizard use the move.

Blast Burn is a powerful fire move for a Charizard and it may increase the usage of the fire lizard in various gyms. Although Charizard will be the only Pokemon that knows Blast Burn at this time, trainers may see the move added to the move-sets of Typhlosion and Blaziken at some point in the future.

Charmander and Blast Burn won’t be the only exclusives for this month’s Community Day as there will be two special bonuses for the event.

Trainers will earn three times the stardust when they catch a Pokemon and lures will be active for three hours. Even if a trainer has enough Charmander candies to evolve their Pokemon, they can use the extra candy and stardust to increase the power of their Charizard.

In addition to the bonuses for stardust and the increased time for lures, Charmander’s shiny variant will appear more frequently, giving trainers an opportunity to potentially have a shiny Charizard by the end of the day. One downside is much like event and legendary Pokemon, trainers cannot transfer shiny Pokemon to Professor Willow for candy.

Another potential bonus, according to a report from Game Rant, is there will be special Field Research tasks for Community Day that will put an emphasis on Charmander.
