As the NFL’s Washington franchise undergoes a name, and logo, change, Madden 21 will be doing the same. EA Sports is gearing up for whatever the name change will entail, and has plans in place for now.
According to US Gamer, EA’s new Madden 21 will feature a “generic” Washington team in lieu of the team’s retirement of the “Redskins” name and logo following years of pressure to do so, particularly from the Native American community.
“We are pleased to see Washington’s decision to change their team name and visual identity,” an EA spokesperson confirmed to US Gamer.
“We are quickly working to update Madden NFL 21 to feature a generic Washington team, while we await the final word on the updated team name and logo design.” EA admitted that players may continue to “see some outdated Washington references in other areas of the game at launch,” but the development team is committed to removing all references.
The game is set to arrive on Playstation and Xbox One on August 28th, and will hit Playstation 5, Xbox Series X, and Google Stadia later this winter.
