Helldivers 2 was one of the hottest releases of 2024 becoming Playstation’s fastest-selling game ever, but things have come crashing down for the once-popular alien-shooter as the game’s Steam numbers continue to drop at a significant pace to around 10% of its all-time concurrent Steam peak of 458,709 players.
According to Victoria, SteamDB shows that Helldivers 2’s peak at that time had dropped 64% o 166,305, but closed out the month of June continuing the troubling trend, dropping 35% and falling to a 30-day average of 41,860 concurrent players on Steam (h/t Forbes).
While the PC gamers are fleeing, Playstation 5 players are still playing, but it’s not a good sign for such a promising game that hit a major pitfall with the whole Sony debacle including the infamous PSN controversy that turned off a ton of their user base and generated plenty of negative reviews for the once beloved title.
Whether or not Helldivers 3 can recover remains to be seen, but the trends indicate that the Sony missteps may have completely killed the upward trajectory of one of the most successful games of the year.
