Scary as it may sound, Reddit is running a five-day trial of live video steaming, allowing users to utilize a tool, for those eligible, that will allow them to broadcast live video to the Reddit Public Access Network.
That’s right, one of the most popular, and toxic, forums for conversation is now allowing it’s members to broadcast live video.
Nothing can go wrong, right?
Streaming will only be allowed between 09:00 and 17:00 and human moderators will watch every stream to ensure no inappropriate content is broadcast, however with the community’s reputation for how members can, at times, be obsessively toxic, there is some risk involved.
“We will be watching r/pan broadcasts very closely,” Reddit stated, adding that the test was about “fun” and expressing the intentions that it wanted all videos to be “safe of work”.
Reddit will not allow videos that contain the following:
- nudity
- sexually suggestive content
- graphic violence
- illegal/dangerous behaviour
- hoax promotion
- content that would be seen as highly offensive/upsetting
Videos from the eligible users will show up on the r/pan sub-reddit but the most popular will be also be visible on the site’s front page. Reddit will initially permit a maximum of 100 streams to run concurrently and none will last longer than 30 minutes.
