Twitch has made some changes to their controversial ban system, and implementing harsher penalties, including those for users who are banned from a streamer’s chat, according to DOT Esports’ Cale Michael.
Any user who is banned from a chat won’t be able to continue their toxic behavior by simply creating a new account to jump back in the streamer’s chat, giving more power to streamers who combat unruly, abusive, or toxic people in their chat.
Twitch has more information on their Support website.
Furthermore, users who are banned from a chat won’t be able to see the chat, and will also be shadowbanned through their IP address which will keep them from being able to interact with any streamer that has banned them. The restrictions will stay in place until the broadcaster, or one of their mods, formally lift the ban. If a ban is lifted for one account, the entire IP address will have the shadowban removed, creating a more intuitive system.
Additionally, any member who is banned will be removed from a streamer’s following list and will be unable to refollow, whisper, host, or purchase gifted subs for that specific channel.
