InvaderVee, a popular Twitch streamer, is under fire after she criticized viewers for bring too poor to subscribe to her channel, suggesting that anyone who did not have $5 or $10 available to spend if “irresponsible”.
The Toronto based streamer has amassed over 144,000 followers on her Twitch channel, becoming one of the more popular Twitch streamers, and during a stream she broadcasted back in April 14th, she asked her viewers to pay the full $4.99 price to sub to her channel, stating that anyone should be able to afford to the price and should pay to support her and her channel.
“It doesn’t matter how broke you are. If you have time to watch Twitch, you have $10,” said InvaderVie, according to Insider. “If you don’t have $10, you probably don’t have time to watch Twitch, because you should be working, you should be trying to earn money.”
One viewer reportedly commented that they were unemployed and all of their money had to be used to pay for essentials, such as food and shelter, but InvaderVee wasn’t having it, despite the entire world population, and economies, severely impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.
“No one’s going to convince me that what I’m saying is so rude, or so unacceptable, or so outrageous. It just simply isn’t,” InvaderVee responded. She added that $5 or $10 doesn’t equate to the cost of a full meal while arguing that she wasn’t asking for too much from viewers.
InvaderVee went on to say that viewers who claim to be too “broke” to subscribe are “irresponsible” with their own personal finances.
“What you mean to say is, ‘I’m so irresponsible with my money, I can’t support the entertainment that I enjoy.'”
According to Insider, InvaderVee has not responded to their emails regarding the controversial comments she made.
