Twitch is taking measures to prevent harassment within it’s community by banning “simp” emotes, which has negative connotations, according to Kotaku’s Nathan Grayson.
According the report, Twitch has been deleting simp emotes as far back as late February, and has gone the extra mile by rejecting and/or deleting streamer variations of the term, from big streamers to small streamers as well.
One of the most popular female streamers, Imane “Pokimane” Anys, who also runs one of the platform’s most viewed Twitch streams recently announced on her stream that her “FedSimp” emote had been removed by Twitch “for targeted harassment and bullying.”
While, at times, the simp emote is rather innocuous and used humorously (considered as a joke within the community), it has been used to target and harass others, and it has been used so at a rate that apparently had exceeded what Twitch is comfortable with.
