TikTok Planning Music Streaming App

TikTok is looking to compete against the likes of Spotify and Apple, as reports have surfaced indication that ByteDance’s popular short-form video platform could be lining up to release a music streaming app.

According to a report from The Verge, TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, filed a trademark application with the US Patent and Trademark Office for “TikTok Music” back in May of this year, with the filing stating that the service would let users purchase, play, share, and download music. ByteDance had already filed for a “TikTok Music” trademark in Australia back in November of 2021.

Additionally, the details state that the app would also allow users to create, share, and recommend playlists, comment on music, as well as livestream audio and video.

This won’t be ByteDance’s first dive into music content creators and music streamers, as back in 2020 they launched a streaming app called ‘Resso’ in Indonesia, India, and Brasil.
