Epic Games, the company behind the mega popular game Fortnite, has officially acquired social video app Houseparty, and while the official terms of the deal were not disclosed at the time of this report, the two entities will remain separate moving forward.
Houseparty, a social video app for desktop and mobile devices, becomes the 2nd acquisition for Epic Games this year, and for now the app’s functionality will remain unchanged. Epic Games acquired Psyonix Studios, the developer behind Rocket League, earlier this year.
According to an official blog post by Houseparty, user accounts between the two companies will be kept separate. In addition, data will not be shared across platforms.
“Houseparty brings people together, creating positive social interactions in real time,” said Tim Sweeney, founder and CEO of Epic Games in an official statement. “By teaming up, we can build even more fun, shared experiences than what could be achieved alone.”
